The big screw cap is actually a compression fitting. Each has two spark plug wires that look like they screw in. Once tank is off, locate the two coils, front left and rear right.
#XNIP MOTOR SPARK PLUG WIRES MODS#
Several mods include removing the tank so you should find what you need.Ģ. Find "fuel pick-up mod" and it has a step-by-step to removing the tank. IF you've never done this, go to and go to the "mods" on the left of mainpage. Mike "Bareass" Buras of talked me through it and said that he was seeing similar problems on 02 and 03 bikes with 40,000 to 50,000 miles on the odometer.ġ. To clean up the coil to spark plug wire is pretty easy. That may not be what is affecting your bike. I actually had to run on one cylinder for 50 miles to get home. I assume I'll have to route the wires through the tunnel and then crimp the wire ends afterwards. That was me. It will need to be powdercoated and installed. I just ordered the tube and I haven't received it yet. Also, would the longer coil wire affect the reliability of the ignition? I'd like to mount my coil behind the engine shroud on the firewall but wonder if it will be difficult to find a longer coil wire. I just ordered the wire tube from Airkewld and plan on hiding the spark plug wires for a cleaner look.
Lots of options.Īnd on the Bosch - you unscrew it at the plug end, cut the wire to length and screw it back on. You can also drill a hole in a plastic clip and screw it to the shroud and snap your wires in or use a cable strap. Of course you can get wire clips at any parts store. Then loop a tie between the wires (perpundicular to the other ties) around the first tie and draw them tight and snip off the excess. What you do is run a tie around 2 wires and leave it loose.

Something I do is use big black zip ties to space the wires and keep them in place - can be done neatly so it looks good.
#XNIP MOTOR SPARK PLUG WIRES GENERATOR#
My last ones melted under the generator, now i have a spot on the new ones that looks a bit melted just by the slight curve look to the wire in the same spot, thinking of putting a nylon or rubber clamp in between the generator and intake tube to keep it off for sure.īosch sounds like the way im going to go. And they can be easily shortend to the exact desired length, I personally run two sets of separators, it really allows you to fine tune the location Going to try to find a better quality wire set and hope they hold up next time.īosch. like the tube look on the pictures :) very clean looking. I think they stopped all that when compression ratio's started to go up and you needed a hotter spark and being so close in the tube, wires would sometimes arc to the other plug wire or the tube to ground out. Some of my friends have them on their Lincoln V-12', Auburn V-12, Cadillac V-8- V-12-V16's. Not only VW but many cars of the 30's 40's and 50's did that also. That is the way VW used to route the wires, I can't remember when the 36 hp engine switched to fasteners and ran the wires on the outside.Ask Bill May on that. A really good made for VW wire set is less likely to leave a lot of slack to touch the hot areas.Ĭheck this out, I thought this was kinda cool:
Need to make sure the "slack" is taken up outside the engine - don't leave wires touching stuff (manifold especially). Ran under the generator on the passenger side and under the heater hose on the drivers.Īny suggestion on hi temp or really good wire sets so this doesnt happen again. Had one of mine melt and start arcing on the engine.įrom what i have seen mine is the same as others. Just wanted to see how people have ran there spark plug wires on there motor.
